Quick answerThis is the archived Week 3 edition. Week 3 concluded September 28, 2026. The September 23 outlook below is preserved for reference; visit the weekly hub for current advice.
Quick answerFor Week 3, remove confirmed absences from your starting lineup and compare healthy replacements in your league's scoring format. Keep backups for uncertain players until official reports settle their status. Thursday players need an early decision; waiting on a Monday player requires an eligible Monday alternative.
Confirmed quarterback news versus injury watch
Jaxson Dart is out for the regular season; Jameis Winston will start for New York. Do not carry forward the initial sprain-only outlook when choosing your Week 3 quarterback.
Kyler Murray cleared concussion protocol and is set to start for Minnesota against Tampa Bay.
| Player or group | Reported concern | Lineup decision |
|---|---|---|
| Caleb Williams | Hamstring injury | Prepare another QB, especially if waiting until Monday would remove alternatives. |
| Jayden Daniels | Elbow injury | Secure quarterback cover and confirm Washington's current starting plan. |
| Saquon Barkley | Shoulder issue after Week 2 | Keep a usable Monday alternative if his availability remains uncertain. |
| J.K. Dobbins / RJ Harvey | Hamstring issues | Reassess the Denver split before promoting a replacement. |
| Brock Bowers | Returning from a knee procedure | Verify active status and expected workload before removing TE cover. |
Thursday: Falcons–Packers decisions come first
Thursday kickoff is September 24 at 8:15 p.m. ET. Set Atlanta and Green Bay players before the applicable lock. Keep a later RB or WR in FLEX where possible to preserve options as the remaining injury reports arrive.
A player being active answers whether he can play, not how much he will play. If there is a reported workload restriction, compare that expected role with your healthy alternative. Use your lineup's need for floor or upside to break a close choice rather than treating a waiver add as an automatic start.
Monday uncertainty: plan the fallback before Sunday
Eagles–Bears is Monday's finale. A Sunday starter is no longer an available substitute after his lock. If you keep an uncertain Monday player in your lineup, reserve someone eligible for that slot who has not yet locked, and confirm that your league allows the swap.
For example, a late receiver cannot replace a player in a dedicated RB slot. Moving an eligible late RB into FLEX before games begin may preserve more alternatives. Do not make that move after the early player locks or assume your platform permits retroactive edits.
How to decide between two healthy starters
- Compare expected opportunity: routes and targets for receivers, touches and receiving work for backs.
- Apply your scoring settings; full PPR rewards catches differently from standard scoring.
- Check the replacement cost and any news that changes the player's normal role.
- Use matchup and desired floor or ceiling to resolve a close call, then verify the saved lineup in your fantasy platform.
