Quick answerThis is the archived Week 5 edition. Week 5 ended October 12, 2026. The original October 8 outlook follows; use the weekly hub for current lineup, waiver and injury decisions.
Quick answerSit Baker Mayfield, who is ruled out for Thursday, and replace Chiefs/Panthers players on bye. Keep eligible alternatives for Sunday injury concerns until later reports clarify availability. Make Buccaneers–Cowboys decisions before Thursday kickoff, and review Eagles–Jaguars before Sunday's 9:30 a.m. ET London start.
Thursday: Mayfield out; check Tampa Bay and Dallas first
Tampa Bay ruled Baker Mayfield out with a right-thumb injury on its October 7 report. The team's game preview identifies Jalon Daniels as the starter. Buccaneers–Cowboys kicks off Thursday, October 8 at 8:15 p.m. ET.
LineupLab decision: move Mayfield out of an active slot. Evaluate Daniels against available healthy quarterbacks rather than assuming a replacement inherits the starter's fantasy output. Keep Thursday players in dedicated positional slots where possible so a later RB or WR can occupy FLEX. Verify your league's actual lock rules.
Sunday injury watch: practice participation is not a final status
| Player | Wednesday report | What to prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Saquon Barkley · RB | Hamstring · DNP | Keep a usable RB alternative; Philadelphia plays in the early London window. |
| Lamar Jackson · QB | Ankle · DNP | Secure a quarterback fallback before earlier starters lock. |
| Ja'Marr Chase · WR | Concussion · DNP | Check clearance and game status; reserve an eligible receiver. |
| Tee Higgins · WR | Groin/neck · DNP | Review his status separately from Chase's. |
| Malik Nabers · WR | Knee · DNP | Keep receiver depth available while awaiting subsequent reports. |
For a close start/sit call, compare expected workload, scoring format and the healthy alternative. An active designation only establishes availability; it does not establish a full workload. If you wait for a later game, make sure the replacement can still enter the correct slot when the news arrives.
Chiefs and Panthers byes: healthy players still need a bench spot
Kansas City and Carolina do not play in Week 5. Replace their players in all active slots, including kicker and defense where your league uses them.
A one-week bye does not erase a player's rest-of-season value. Compare your least useful depth before dropping an established starter. For a streaming position, check that the replacement is available and eligible before making the release.
Week 5 lineup deadlines in Eastern time
| Game | Kickoff (ET) | Lineup implication |
|---|---|---|
| Buccaneers at Cowboys | Thursday, October 8 · 8:15 p.m. | Finish Thursday decisions and preserve later FLEX options. |
| Eagles vs. Jaguars · London | Sunday, October 11 · 9:30 a.m. | Check availability before the usual Sunday-afternoon routine. |
| Bills at Rams | Monday, October 12 · 8:15 p.m. | Waiting on Monday news requires an eligible, unlocked alternative. |
Make the comparison specific to your roster
Start with a legal lineup, then compare opportunity and uncertainty. Full PPR can favor a receiving role more than standard scoring does. A healthy player with dependable work may be preferable to an uncertain workload when the projected difference is small; a deeper roster can afford to hold a speculative pickup without starting him.
For example, a Monday receiver cannot replace a running back in a dedicated RB slot. Plan the slot and fallback together before the earlier games begin.
