Quick answerFor Week 6, replace bye-week players and prepare alternatives for injury concerns before their backups lock. Do not treat an estimated practice entry or an optimistic return report as game clearance. Seattle–Denver starts Thursday; Houston–Jacksonville has an early Sunday London kickoff. This is Tuesday's planning edition, not final game-day status.
Thursday watch: Seattle's estimated report needs a final check
Jaxon Smith-Njigba (ankle) and Drew Lock (right forearm) were listed as limited in Seattle's Tuesday estimate. The team did not practice. Charbonnet remains a conditional return watch rather than a confirmed Thursday option.
Keep an eligible later alternative if you are waiting on a Thursday player. A limited estimate describes expected participation; it is not an out designation and does not establish a snap restriction. Review the final report and inactives before deciding. Put an early RB or WR in a dedicated position where possible to preserve FLEX options.
Injury decisions after Week 5
| Player | Reported update | Lineup action |
|---|---|---|
| TreVeyon Henderson | October 13: high ankle sprain; expected to miss multiple weeks | Build an RB replacement plan; check the formal designation later. |
| Lamar Jackson | October 12: Wednesday practice availability unclear after ankle injury | Keep a healthy QB fallback while awaiting participation updates. |
| Michael Penix Jr. | October 12: ribs injury under evaluation | Do not lock in a quarterback assumption before Atlanta's next update. |
| Saquon Barkley / Will Shipley | Barkley return hoped for; Shipley could miss weeks | Reassess Philadelphia's backfield instead of carrying forward last week's plan. |
| Deebo Samuel | October 12: expected to miss time with a hamstring injury | Prepare receiver cover before waiting for Monday's game. |
Week 6 byes and a Tuesday roster change
Bench players from the Bengals, Lions, Dolphins and Vikings for this week's bye.
Tuesday's NFL roundup also reports the Rams released Harrison Mevis and signed Blake Grupe.
If your league uses kickers, check roster transactions as well as injury icons. A familiar name in a saved lineup may no longer hold the job. Do not drop an established skill-position starter solely for a single bye; compare available bench space and one-week alternatives first.
Week 6 lineup deadlines in Eastern time
| Matchup | Kickoff (ET) | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Seahawks at Broncos | Thursday, October 15 · 8:15 p.m. | Recheck Thursday availability and preserve later FLEX choices. |
| Texans vs. Jaguars · Wembley, London | Sunday, October 18 · 9:30 a.m. | Review Houston and Jacksonville before the afternoon games. |
| Commanders at 49ers | Monday, October 19 · 8:15 p.m. | Reserve an eligible late fallback if waiting on a Monday player. |
Start/sit choices should compare your actual alternatives
First confirm that each candidate can fill the slot and has not locked. Then compare expected work, reception scoring and uncertainty. A healthy replacement with a stable role can be preferable to an unresolved return when the expected difference is small. A player acquired for future upside does not need to start immediately.
For example, a Monday receiver cannot replace a player in a dedicated RB slot. If you wait until Monday without an eligible fallback, earlier healthy options disappear. Decide the player, slot and backup together before the first relevant kickoff. Use the roster-aware tools for a direct comparison; this editorial news review is not a numeric ranking board.
